ONE STEP CLOSER TO A SAFER BELGRAVE-GEMBROOK ROAD

Member for Gembrook Brad Battin today announced that Citywide Service Solutions Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract for two projects totalling $4.4 million for safety improvements on Belgrave-Gembrook Road between Clematis and Cockatoo.

Mr Battin said the contract included a $3.3 million safety improvement project on Belgrave-Gembrook Road from Clematis to Avonsleigh as well as a new $1.1 million project for safety improvements on Belgrave-Gembrook Road at Cockatoo.

“These works include the installation of guard fence, wire rope safety barriers and improved delineation which will improve safety along Belgrave-Gembrook Road,” Mr Battin said.
“In the five year period ending 30 June 2012, there were 35 reported run-off-road casualty crashes along these sections of the Belgrave-Gembrook Road, including one fatal crash and twenty serious injury crashes.

“These safety improvements will go a long way to significantly reduce the number and severity of run-off-road crashes along Belgrave-Gembrook Road.
“Improving road infrastructure is just one of the many ways that we can contribute to lowering the road toll and reducing casualty crashes,” Mr Battin said.

The funding is provided by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) through the Safer Roads Infrastructure Program and is part of a 10-year commitment of $650 million.
Work is expected to start in early 2013.
