NEW RESERVE FOR WOORI YALLOCK

The Victorian Coalition Government has provided $50,000 towards the establishment of a new community meeting place in Woori Yallock.

Member for Gembrook Brad Battin said the Woori Yallock Township Action Group (WYTAG) had received $50,000 through the Community Support Grants Program to assist the development of a new reserve on the corner of Healesville-Kooweerup Road and Woori Court.

“This grant will allow WYTAG to build an ampitheatre, footpaths, tables and chairs, and install a flagpole,” Mr Battin said.

“It will mean Woori Yallock will have its own dedicated community space, which will be invaluable for both community groups and individual residents.

“The WYTAG have put in a lot of hard work to get this project off the ground, and I am sure everyone in Woori Yallock will benefit from the new space once it is completed later this year.”

The new community reserve will beautify a previously vacant lot that was sometimes overgrown with weeds and rubbish.

The project is also being supported with funding from the Woori Yallock Bendigo Community Bank and Yarra Ranges Shire Council.

Mr Battin said since 2011 the Victorian Coalition Government had announced more than $14.6 million in metropolitan Community Support to construct community infrastructure and fund important local iniatitives.

Deputy Premier Peter Ryan said the grants funded projects which helped communities to build skills and knoweledge, strengthen local connections and networks and encouraged leadership and innovation.

“By developing and improving local assets and grassroots decision making, communities are better placed to respond to the many challenges and opportunities facing Victorians – important issues like population growth, disadvantage and rapid economic change,” Mr Ryan said.
