PLANNING APPROVALS TO BRING 800 LOCAL JOBS, $315 MILLION INVESTMENT FOR PAKENHAM
Planning Minister Matthew Guy has amended the Cardinia Planning Scheme,
enabling the $315 million expansion of O’Connor’s Abattoir in Pakenham,
creating 800 jobs for the local community.
Amendment C176 to the Cardinia Planning Scheme will allow for the expansion
of the abattoir enabling the establishment of world class meat processing
supply chain facilities in one of Melbourne’s fastest growing corridors.“
Today’s announcement facilitates the injection of $315 million into the
local economy, will create 800 direct jobs and provide a significant boost
to associated supply chain industries,” Mr Guy said.
“This is a fantastic outcome for the Shire of Cardinia and demonstrates
that business and the local community can have confidence in Victoria’s
planning system to drive economic growth and productivity.
“Bringing new jobs to growth areas is important for the future
sustainability of Melbourne, so this investment will be a great shot in the
arm to the economy of the south east.
O’Connor’s Abattoir is one of the largest employers in the Cardinia growth
area and is strategically located close to the recently announced $66
million Koo Wee Rup bypass that will be delivered by the Coalition
Government.
