BERWICK PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS RUN TO VICTORY
Member for Gembrook Brad Battin today congratulated Berwick Primary School students on their impressive efforts at the Berwick Show Fun Run.
Mr Battin sponsored the $500 prize for greatest group attendance, which Berwick Primary School won with more than 30 students and parents completing the fun run on 24 February.
“It’s great to see Berwick Primary School supporting the Berwick Show and encouraging its students and wider school community to take part in the fun run,” Mr Battin said.
Berwick Primary School teacher Tim Bowman said students and parents ran side by side in the fun run.
“This was a fantastic event to bring local families together and encourage a healthy lifestyle,” Mr Bowman said.
“The prize will help support the joggers club we run at the school, and go towards new marathon medals to encourage students.”
Berwick and District Agricultural & Horticultural Society Vice President Tom Gibson said the society was pleased to have staged the event with the help of Brad Battin MP, land owners, the City of Casey, and the Bendigo Bank – Beaconsfield District Community Bank.
“The net proceeds of the fun run will benefit The YMCA’s Open Doors Program for local disadvantaged people.
“This year it was good to see many families involved in this event and staying for the free activities of the Show. Thanks to Mr Tim Bowman from the Berwick Primary School, who was determined to win the prize offered by Mr Battin and thanks also to the Beaconsfield Football club, particularly all the Super Rules players and their families.
“It was a great way to do something for yourself and others and to get free entry to the show. We hope to see you all there next year.
Mr Battin said Berwick Primary School was setting an excellent example for its students.
“Berwick Primary School is helping its students make physical activity part of their daily routine.
“I am pleased to support any initiative that encourages more people to be more active, more often.”
