Liberal Guy Government will deliver $1.1 million to build a Health and Wellbeing Centre for Berwick College.
A Liberal Government will deliver $1.1 million to build a Health and Wellbeing Centre for Berwick College.
The Health and Wellbeing Centre will provide essential mental health services for young people in Casey and Cardinia.
Member for Gembrook Brad Battin MP said the Health and Wellbeing Centre was long overdue.
“Youth mental health has been a prominent issue in Casey and Cardinia for several years. This centre will provide a hub for young people to access a wide range of support services,” Mr Battin said.
“The previous Napthine Coalition government committed to this project in 2014 –young people have missed out for the past four years because Daniel Andrews cut the funding for this commitment.
“Youth mental health is a serious issue that requires an innovative response. We will work with Berwick College and the community to build a purpose-built centre that will offer the support and services our young people need.
“This Health and Wellbeing Centre will serve as a hub for students from a range of local schools – government, independent and catholic.”
The announcement builds on the Liberal’s strong commitment to youth mental health, with a $960,000 investment in specialist youth suicide prevention services in Casey and Cardinia delivered by the previous Coalition State Government in 2013.
The Health and Wellbeing Centre will have facilities for counsellors, space to access and deliver programs by specialist providers, amenities for sick students and an area for young people who need a mental health break.
“Berwick College Principal Kerri Bolch has been a passionate advocate for her students and other young people in Casey and Cardinia.”
