The standard Daniel Andrews walks past is the standard he accepts
Despite repeated warnings about the discrimination towards women and part-time workers, Daniel Andrews still pushes ahead with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade EBA.
The firefighter pay deal rammed through by Daniel Andrews will now be scrutinised by the Fair Work Commission (FWC).
Serious concerns have been raised by Commissioner Kristen Hilton of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC) that the EBA actively undermines women’s participation in Victoria’s operational fire services.
Despite these warnings, Daniel Andrews has still pushed ahead with an EBA that will discriminate against women, even while running a campaign encouraging more women in the fire services.
The Commonwealth Government and the VEOHRC will now take the EBA to task at the FWC to determine whether it breaches the Fair Work Act.
Daniel Andrews has previously boasted about his commitment to gender equality, but it appears that when push comes to shove, he will not back female firefighters.
The public has a right to know what deals Daniel Andrews struck with United Firefighters Union Secretary Peter Marshall in exchange for his support prior to the 2014 State Election.
If elected, the Liberal Nationals will hold a Royal Commission into Victoria’s fire services to get to the bottom of Labor’s attacks and discrimination against volunteers and women.
