Liberals to improve pedestrian safety at Gembrook Primary School

A Liberals Government will improve safety for Gembrook primary and pre-school students with the installation of flashing 40 km/h signals at Gembrook Primary School and Pre-School.

Out of control population growth in our suburbs is placing enormous pressure on our local schools, roads and transport.

Local Gembrook families know the danger all too well when crossing the road on a foggy morning with limited visibility.

Daniel Andrews and the Education Minister, James Merlino have treated the safety of local students as second rate. In Minister Merlino’s own electorate of Monbulk, 40km/h flashing signals are a common occurrence, but for Gembrook the recent addition of new static signs fails to improve safety for local children.

The local Labor candidate was celebrating the installation of these static signs last week, despite the local community signing a 500 signature strong petition calling for the installation of flashing lights.

The installation of flashing school zone signs around schools has been roundly acclaimed by road safety experts and school communities as being a very effective program for improving road safety around Victorian school precincts.

Only a Liberals Government will install the flashing 40km/h school zone signs in Gembrook increasing student’s safety as they arrive and leave school.

Comments attributable to Member for Gembrook, Brad Battin:

“I have been working with the local community and Principal Brendan Fitzpatrick for over 2 years, petitioning the Andrews Labor Government to install flashing school zone signs.

Despite the hundreds of petition signees in the local area calling for the signs to be installed, only Labor would celebrate refusing to provide this safety measure for the students and parents of Gembrook Primary School and Pre-School.

Only the Liberals have listened to the local school community and will deliver flashing 40km/h school zone signs for Gembrook.”
