CFA fitness test deemed “unworkable” by the President of the College of General Practitioners
The President of the College of General Practitioners, Dr Harry Nespolon has slammed the proposed fitness test for CFA volunteers as “unworkable”.
On 3AW this morning, Neil Mitchell revealed that one of the 50 points in the draft test requires a doctor to assess whether the volunteer firefighter is able to “lead a team in an emergency situation” and another is whether they “can be exposed to casualties”.
In responding to the draft test, Dr Harry Nespolon also questioned whether a GP – or even a psychologist – was qualified to assess how an individual would respond in an emergency until they were put in it.
There remain many questions as to why this unworkable test has been proposed and if there are any ulterior motives behind it.
The Andrews Labor Government is also yet to explain why this test will only apply to volunteer firefighters and not full-time career firefighters.
The CFA has come under sustained attack from Daniel Andrews for over four years which has seen a significant decline in volunteer numbers which is putting the lives and safety of Victorians at risk.
Given the Andrews Labor Government’s track record with its treatment of our 60,000 CFA volunteers, Victorians will be rightly cynical that there are sinister reasons behind this proposed test.
