Fiona Patten’s Reason Party supports Labor destroying CFA
Today, Upper House MP, Fiona Patten from the Reason Party supported the Andrews Labor Government in successfully forcing through legislation to break up the CFA and risk the safety of all Victorians.
Daniel Andrews waited to bring this bill before the Parliament after the federal election – knowing the bill would shatter CFA volunteers across the state.
Fiona Patten who was rumoured to be one of the MPs to hold the deciding vote, sided with the Government’s bill to split the CFA.
The Andrews Labor Government rushed this controversial bill through the Parliament, with the clear understanding that Fire Rescue Victoria will be the beginning of the end for Victoria’s beloved 74-year-old volunteer Country Fire Authority organisation.
The bill disrespects volunteers and threatens our community safety in future fire seasons.
Labor put two bills in one and refused to separate cancer compensation for volunteers from the bill to destroy the service that has proudly protected us for decades.
The Government have this year alone cut $40m from the CFA budget and millions from the emergency services – hindering our volunteers from protecting our community.
It is thoroughly disappointing, yet not surprising that Patten supported this controversial bill without community consultation before siding with the Government.
The Liberal Nationals strongly opposed these changes, and we commit to always putting community safety first.
