Brad Battin MP supports banning single-use plastic bags.
State Liberal Member for Gembrook Brad Battin MP supports banning single-use plastic bags in Victoria.
For too long, we have seen plastic bags in our oceans, on our streets and millions in landfill every year. It is important as a community we take this stand and support legislation that will place a ban on all single-use plastic lightweight shopping bags with a thickness of 35 microns or less.
Biodegradable, degradable and compostable plastic bags of the same thickness too with be included in the ban from November 1st 2019.
“The future of our environment is too important to ignore” explains Brad Battin
After speaking with residents, local school students and community groups on ways in which we can make a real difference for our environment, I will join them and support the ban on single-use plastic bags,” Brad Battin continues.
According to figures from Sustainability Victoria in the past Australians used up to 10 million plastic bags per day. This contributed to an astonishing estimated 8 million tones of plastic dumped into the ocean each year.
“Too many plastic bags end up in our waterways and landfill harming our wildlife and causing an environmental disaster we can no longer ignore” states Brad Battin
Removing single-use plastic bags is a positive step forward in securing a greener future for our environment, but we know there is more to be done.
