Federal Liberal funding finally given the green light to fix the Monash.
Constituents of Casey and Cardinia welcome today’s announcement with the green light finally given to Stage 2 of the Monash Freeway upgrade.
Residents have been forced to wait since 2016 for this stage to commence due to Daniel Andrew’s refusing to accept the Federal Government’s funding.
Liberal State Member for Gembrook Brad Battin points out resident’s three-year wait for the Labor State Government to accept the Liberal’s funding has come at a cost to taxpayers.
“The only reason why the Federal and State Government have had to commit a further $367.5 million to the project is because Daniel Andrews refused to build the entire Monash upgrade at the same time as stage 1.”
“If Daniel Andrews accepted the Federal Liberal Government’s money back in 2016, locals will be already getting home sooner, with stage 2 already completed.”
Residents will now have to wait until 2022 due to the Labor Government’s delay.
“The State Government’s stubbornness has not only cost taxpayers more money but will leave them with extended chaos on roads.” Brad Battin explains.
The Member for Gembrook thanks the Federal Member for La Trobe Jason Wood MP and the Federal Liberal Government for their commitment back in 2016, stating without it locals would be still stuck in traffic.
“With Daniel Andrew’s Minister for Roads in 2016 calling the proposed Stage 2 upgrade of the Monash a ‘bird-brained idea’, it is only because of the Federal Liberal Government that the Monash will be finally fixed”.
