Dance school continually roadblocked by Daniel Andrews

Dance schools across the state face another roadblock, in Daniel Andrews roadmap to recovery.

Despite the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions declaring to Ausdance dance studios would be classified as ?creative studios? on the weekend allowing studios to open in Step 3, it is understood The Andrews Labor Government retracted this decision a day later reconfirming dance studios are to remain under the ?indoor fitness? classification- leaving the industry baffled

This has resulted with regional dance schools unable to open in Step 3 easing of restrictions
despite the return of contact sport.

Local dance studio owners have expressed their frustration as the Government put more
roadblocks up for the industry. Dance schools have been closed all but one week since March,
and 54% of the industry was ineligible for state government support.

Despite proposing their COVID Safe plans that included no parents onsite, density quotations,
social distancing maintained at all times, no shared equipment and cleaning between classes, the
Andrews Government refuse to budge and work towards allowing a return for students.

With dance studios providing vital dance education for student?s studying dance at VCAL and
VCE levels or wanting to pursue a profession in the arts, studios must be reclassified as ?creative
studios? and return as soon as health advice allows.

Quotes attributable to Brad Battin Liberal State Member for Gembrook

?Dance studios have worked tirelessly with their peak bodies to ensure they have COVIDSafe plans and procedures in place to ensure safety. The number one priority is to return students safely and this arrogant Government refuses to listen.?

?The Andrews? Labor Government should stop using their excessive powers to overrule the
advice given to dance studios and their students and immediately reclassify dance studios as
?creative studios?.?

?Dance is the second most popular activity for young girls in Victoria, teaching them vital motor
and social skills, and Daniel Andrews refuses to listen to the advice.?

?With over 1000 dance studios in Victoria employing over 5,000 Victorian?s, Daniel Andrews
oversight in his Government?s classification of dance studios could see not only the loss of
studios and thousands of jobs, but opportunities for young people to keep fit and active.?
