Daniel Andrews keeps communities in the dark on Fire Services performance

Date

Victorians are kept in the dark as the Andrews Labor Government continues to block the release of key fire services response time data.

In 2018, then Minister for Emergency Services, James Merlino promised this data would be release every quarter to improve transparency and better inform local communities.

Despite this promise, data is only current to 30 December 2020. That is 10 months of missing data.

Instead of being honest with Victorians as promised, Daniel Andrews is instead using spin and cover-ups to keep local communities in the dark and avoid scrutiny.

The refusal to release response time data follows a recent report from Fire Services Implementation Monitor which paints a damning picture of Fire Rescue Victoria’s performance, and the campaign by United Firefighters Union management to grow their response area at the expense of local CFA volunteers.

Instead of deflecting questions about his dealings with UFU management, Daniel Andrews should sort his priorities out and be transparent with Victorians about the response times of the fire services that he and UFU management created.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin:

“The FRV response time data is late, the UFU management are disrespecting volunteers and it is clear Daniel Andrews just doesn’t care.

“Labor continues to hide the data it promised to deliver. What do they have to hide?

“Instead of hiding the truth and attacking volunteers, Daniel Andrews should come clean on the mess he has made of fire services in Victoria.”
