Finally, after years of campaigning from the community, Beaconsfield’s level crossings will be receiving an upgrade.
Liberal State Member for Gembrook Brad Battin MP welcomes this morning’s news stating “residents have frustratingly been crying out for Beaconsfield’s level crossings to be upgraded for several years to keep up with the area’s development- until now Labor has ignored them.”
As early as recent months Mr Battin has continued to raise in Parliament the safety concerns for drivers and pedestrians at Beaconsfield’s level crossings, especially at Brunt Road- with the Labor Government continuingly playing politics with their responses.
The politics has continued with Labor forcing Beaconsfield residents to wait until another state election before works will be completed, with Beaconsfield being left last for the project on the Pakenham line.
Whilst Mr Battin welcomes the level crossing upgrades, he is outraged the much-needed upgrade for Beaconsfield Railway Station has been ignored again, a project the Liberals committed to at the 2018 election.
“I’ve had so many from the community calling for the urgent need of an upgrade for Beaconsfield Station, not only for toilet facilities but a number of people living with a disability needing shelter on the platform where they wait to board the train.
“Labor is again ignoring the needs of the Beaconsfield community, making them wait till last for the upgrades of their crossings and leaving them without a new station.”
“This is just another example of the state Labor Government cutting costs and not listening to the local community needs.” Mr Battin added.
If Labor really cares about the Beaconsfield community, the upgrade of Beaconsfield Station will be a priority.
